Pinus thunbergiana 'Thunderhead'This dwarf form of the Japanese Black Pine has large dark green needles with really white long buds. It is a very striking landscape plant and is most useful as a plant that will draw the eye with its strong presence. This plant can be a shrub or small tree, depending on how you let it grow. I have seen this plant trained and pruned by Japanese master plantsmen into works of art. This cultivar was found by Vermeulen in about 1987.
