2012 $2 RSL Remembrance Day Coloured CoinAt 11am on 11 November, 1918, World War I hostilities ceased after nearly four years of continuous fighting on the Western Front. In 1919, King George V introduced Remembrance Day to commemorate those members of the armed forces who had died in the war. The red poppy has long been an emblem of Remembrance Day as the flower was the only plant to grow in the otherwise barren battlefields of Northern France and Flanders.
